GOOD music

***Opinions: we all have them and blogs should be a safe place to talk about them, so don't get all pissy if you don't agree with mine.

We all have different tastes. I get it. Something I love isn't necessarily going to be loved by everyone else, and vice versa. There are some very popular female musical artists right now that I just DON'T get! They win awards, they have obsessive fans, they have #1 albums, songs, etc. I understand that I'm not always going to agree with the popular opinion but I'm still going to speak out about it anyway.  :)

A while back I was talking with Ryan about Lady Gaga. I just don't see why people think she's so amazing. But she's GAGA, so anything she does is supposed to be amazing, right? I don't think her fans care WHAT her songs sound like. They like HER so much, her costumes, her attitude, her message, her image, etc.  Everything about her is different and people love it, but is her music really that good? Sure some of it's catchy, but I still wouldn't qualify it as great music. I think her real talent isn't music, it's her ability to perform and market herself. I pretty much feel the same way about Katie Perry: cute image and a few catchy songs, but I still wouldn't classify her as a great singer or artist or whatever.

Anyway, the reason I bring this up now is because I just came across the above quote from Adele on pinterest.com and I thought it was such a good way to explain the difference between some of the popular artists today. For some, image is a huge part of their fame. Without their outrageous image, people would lose interest. For others, it's just about the voice, the lyrics, the raw talent.

I like music for ears!

  1. Two things:

    1. Totally agree!! I can't stand Gaga or Perry -- and it actually has more to do with their slutty lyrics than their slutty outfits.

    2. Don't ever apologize for having your own opinion. If people disagree it just means they have theirs, you know? Confidently declare your thoughts and then let others' roll off your back --especially when it's on your blog. :)

  2. I concur : ) You should voice your opinion more often!
